Lewis and Hathaway investigate the murder of a man found beaten and drowned in his bath. The deceased is identified as a religious fanatic who once attempted to murder a celebrated atheist, Tom Rattenbury, instead crippling Rattenbury's daughter. Investigations reveal that the deceased is another man entirely, the two having chosen to swap identities.
